  • Staff Member Photo Christopher Bodkin Data Coordinator, Sector Performance & Recognition

    Christopher’s role at Practice Greenhealth is to help the sector become more sustainable through data collection, analysis, and reporting. He works with Cecilia DeLoach Lynn on the Sector Performance team to create dynamic metrics and data parameters to maximize both, accessibility of data, as well as what can be learned. Christopher’s vision is to create a circumstance where metrics are aligned with fiscal and social responsibilities in the health care sector as to naturally incentivize leaders to become more sustainable. Christopher oversees the Healthier Hospitals data collection and reporting as well as creates content and reports around data.

    Gary Cohen has been a pioneer in the environmental health movement for thirty years.

    Cohen is Co-Founder and President of Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth. He was also instrumental in bringing together the NGOs and hospital systems that formed the Healthier Hospitals Initiative. All three were created to transform the health care sector to be environmentally sustainable and serve as anchor institutions to support environmental health in their communities.

    Cohen is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Sambhavna Clinic in Bhopal, India. He is also on the Boards of the American Sustainable Business Council, Health Leads and Coming Clean.

    Cohen has received the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship and The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded Cohen an Environmental Merit Award. In 2013, he was awarded the Champion of Change Award for Climate Change and Public Health by the White House.

  • Kevin Conway Kevin Conway Communications Manager, Digital and Brand

    As Communications Manager, Digital and Brand, Kevin is responsible for communications about the organization as a whole and works with representatives from the various departments and programs, including the Healthier Hospitals and the CleanMed Conference & Exposition, to promote specific programs and successes. He works to increase the visibility of the organization and its programs, raise awareness about the unique needs and opportunities for sustainability in the health care sector issues related to public health. Kevin has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of marketing communications, including web and print design, conference planning, advertising and public relations. Kevin earned an MBA in marketing from Loyola University in Chicago. 

  • Cecilia DeLoach Lynn, MBA, LEED AP Cecilia DeLoach Lynn, MBA, LEED AP Director, Sector Performance & Recognition

    Focus Areas: Performance measurement and benchmarking, the Environmental Excellence Awards, sustainability strategy, planning, and implementation assistance, and presenting on health care sustainability topics 

    Cecilia leads the recently created sector performance department at Practice Greenhealth where she is working to identify performance metrics for sustainability in the healthcare sector while also creating reports, tools and resources to support members in assessing, measuring and benchmarking their sustainability performance. Cecilia authors Practice Greenhealth’s annual Sustainability Benchmark Report, oversees the Environmental Excellence Awardsand also provides support and technical assistance to a portfolio of member hospitals. Cecilia is a subject matter expert on sustainable operations in healthcare and has been guiding hospitals and health systems in the development of customized sustainability strategies for more than 18 years. She is an accomplished public speaker and trainer, and builds support and awareness for Practice Greenhealth through targeted speaking engagements, stakeholder engagement and outreach. Cecilia has a BS in Environmental Science, an MBA from the George Washington University with a focus in corporate social responsibility and healthcare administration, and is a LEED-accredited professional. She is based in the Reston, VA office where she lives with her husband and two small children.

  • Beth Eckl Beth Eckl Director of Environmental Purchasing Program

    Focus Areas: Greening the Supply Chain with Group Purchasing Organizations and Health Care Facilities

    Beth Eckl is the Director of the Environmental Purchasing Program for Practice Greenhealth providing technical support, consulting services and training on environmental purchasing for health systems, healthcare facilities and group purchasing organizations. Beth oversees the development of technical, environmental criteria for dozens of medical and non-medical products used in hospitals. She is also responsible for the EPP Specifications Guide for Health Care, the first and only source for health care supply chain professionals. Beth brings more than 15 years of experience in waste management and environmental purchasing to guide members successfully through all the steps in developing and implementing environmental purchasing to fill a critical part of their journey to sustainable health care.

  • Staff Member Photo Dereje Gebremichael Senior Accountant

    Dereje Gebremichael has worked as Practice Greenhealth’s staff accountant since November 2010. In his role, Dereje administers the payroll and payroll accounting, accounts payable, general ledger accounting, and monthly closing processes. Dereje has over 15 years of experience in the accounting and banking field.  He received his master’s degree in accountancy from the University of Northern Virginia.

  • Lin Hill Lin Hill Awards Specialist

    Focus Areas: Awards

    Lin is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the Awards program, from developing the Award applications, to reviewing the completed applications, to developing the Awards ceremony at CleanMed each year. Lin particularly enjoys analyzing awards data, identifying outliers and helping facilities to better understand their data. With 20 years of experience in pollution prevention, Lin has worked both inside and outside of the regulatory arena. She lives in northern NH with her husband, son, daughter and cat, and revels in the many months of skiing available there. 

  • Janet Howard Janet Howard Director, Member Engagement

    Focus Areas: Member engagement, content development, writing, presenting and technical assistance

    Janet Howard leads the member engagement team. The team developes fresh content, educational support and technical assistance to Practice Greenhealth facility members.  Projects include the Employee Engagement Toolkit and fresh content on Materials/Wastes, Engaged Leadership and the Less Food to Landfill goal and toolkit.

    The Member Engagement team works together to help organizations recognize the link between sustainability programming and quality, patient experience and performance excellence. Janet's angle is around empowerment and the belief that every person deserves a safe, healthy and respectful environment.  Receiving her Kundalini Yoga Teacher Certification in 2018, and a long-time Reiki Master and Hospice Volunteer, Janet thinks healing the planet starts with healing ourselves.  Janet gets her nourishment from the natural world and all its beauty.

    With Iqbal Mian, Janet developed a strategic deployment consult offering at Practice Greenhealth. The day-long program facilitates the facility or system's vision, mission, goals and elevator speeches for sustainability programming in alignment with overall strategic organizational goals. This senior level engagement results in strategic deployment and optimizes programmatic success.

    Janet pioneered sustainability in health care from 1991-2004 for Continuum Health Partners in New York City. She writes about health care sustainability issues for outlets like Greenbiz, CSR Wire and Health Care Design Magazine. You can read Janet’s columns on her LinkedIn profile.

    Lauren is an Outreach and Engagement Specialist for Practice Greenhealth, in addition to her project management responsibilities for Healthier Hospitals, the Market Transformation Group, and working with the Health Care Without Harm Climate Program to bring fresh content on Climate and Health to Practice Greenhealth. Prior to joining the organization, Lauren earned a dual Masters in Environment and Natural Resources / Public Policy and Administration from The Ohio State University while she worked at OSU Wexner Medical Center in the Pharmacy Department.

    Focus Area: Member Engagement

    Hermine Levey Weston, RN, MBA is Member Engagement Manager at Practice Greenhealth where she manages member accounts by providing support and technical expertise related to environmental and sustainability programs in health care settings. She is a health care professional with over 25 years of experience in health care quality management. Prior to joining the Practice Greenhealth team she was employed by the Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, Massachusetts. 

    Hermine developed the sustainability framework for improvement at this hospital and consulted with other community hospitals and nursing homes in Western Massachusetts regarding health care sustainability. For these efforts she was recognized as a Nurse Luminary whose members shine a light on environmental challenges in the diverse settings where they live and work. Hermine applied her healthcare experience while earning a Green MBA from Antioch University New England. 

  • Staff Member Photo Iqbal Mian, MSSM Member Engagement Manager

    Iqbal Mian, MSSM, Member Engagement Manager, manages a portfolio of health care members and develops content and resources on energy conservation, quality and various other topics.  Iqbal  received his master of science in Sustainable Management from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. Other degrees include Executive Masters of Business Administration International Studies Program and a bachelor’s in Business Administration and Supply Chain & Operations Management. Iqbal is a Certified Building Operator, Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Facilitator Trained, ISO 14001 Internal Auditor and versed in Energy Benchmarking (Utilization, ENERGY STAR, LEED - HC, NC, EB).

    Since 2010, Iqbal led sustainability initiatives first at Affinity Health System, then Ministry Health Care (through expansion) and most recently as a member of Ascension Health. He has developed policy, toolkits, sustainability strategy and rolled out multiple initiatives including energy conservation across the 15 hospitals and 46 clinics within Ministry Health Care.

    Iqbal brings a passion for healthier environments, empowerment, multi-facility system organizing, creativity and fun. During his downtime he enjoys mountain biking, videography and family.

  • Julie Moyle Julie Moyle, MSN, RN Outreach and Engagement Specialist

    Julie joined Practice Greenhealth as an Outreach and Engagement Specialist in 2015 by way of the Healthier Hospitals Initiative, and her role in the campaign as an Outreach Specialist in 2013. A currently practicing registered nurse, she began developing her interests in health care sustainability in 2003 with the opportunity to open and manage the surgery department at the country’s first LEED certified hospital in Boulder, CO, where she currently lives. She earned her BSN from Vanderbilt University and Master’s degree in Nursing Administration from Duke University. She has worked in the operating rooms of Shands Teaching Hospital at the University of Florida and Duke University Medical Center in clinical and management positions; the University of North Carolina School of Nursing as a visiting research instructor; and Cardinal Health as a consultant specializing in surgical services. Julie enjoys living in Colorado and when not in the office can be found somewhere in the backcountry hiking, skiing and backpacking, or domestically in the garden or kitchen. She volunteers her time as an Advisory Board member for the Philanthropiece foundation, a Boulder-based NGO supporting sustainable and innovative international community development, and has participated in international medical missions.

  • Veronique Nagle Veronique Nagle Human Resources & Administration Director

    Veronique Nagle joined the Practice Greenhealth team in April 2013. As the Human Resources Director for Practice Greenhealth and Health Care Without Harm, Veronique serves to support the organizations' core values and strategic goals through the support and health of its staff. Veronique is responsible for all aspects of the HR function such as recruiting, performance management, benefits management, as well as day-to-day functions. Veronique has been in the non-profit human resources field since 2005, previously working as the HR Manager for the International Association of Fire Chiefs. She has earned her MPA degree with a focus in Human Resources from George Mason University. She also holds Professional Human Resources (PHR), Project Management Professional (PMP), and Certified Association Executive (CAE) credentials.

    Thresa joined Practice Greenhealth as Member Engagement Manager in 2018. She manages a portfolio of members, providing them technical assistance with goal setting, measurement and data collection, benchmarking and elevating successes. Thresa is the Practice Greenhealth content expert for Healthier Foods. Joining Health Care Without Harm in 2016 Thresa specialized in helping hospitals implement healthy sustainable food procurement and increase access to healthy food and beverages for patients, staff, and the community.

    Thresa brings 10 years of experience working in broadline foodservice distribution sales with a focus on healthcare institutions where she  worked to improve access to better food options for hospitals and helped to identify solutions to reduce waste output while increase waste diversion in food service operations. She piloted the first Sustainability Specialist position at US Foods San Francisco and helped to bring environmentally driven purchasing forward in the company’s culture.

    She received a B.A in Marketing and French from Portland State University and an M.B.A in Sustainable Business from San Francisco State University. She is based in her hometown of Bozeman, Montana where she enjoys gardening, skiing, fishing, and all that the beautiful Montana wilderness has to offer.

    Focus Areas: Greening the OR, CERS

    Kaeleigh is a Member Engagement Manager for Practice Greenhealth, largely focusing on the Greening the OR Initiative. She oversees the education, training, communications, public relations, tools, resources and engagements relative to Greening the OR efforts. Kaeleigh works to assist, enhance and establish sustainable best practices within the OR suite, as well as oversees the Council for Environmentally Responsible Surgery.

  • Lara Sutherland Lara Sutherland Director of Performance Analytics

    Lara Sutherland is the go-to person for Practice Greenhealth's Business Members. She provides Practice Greenhealth's Business Members with the tools, resources, and data they need to better reach and better serve their environmentally-minded health care customers, and is constantly striving to improve membership value for Practice Greenhealth's Business Members. Previously, she ran the Environmental Purchasing Program at Practice Greenhealth. Her prior experience also includes working in the Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Program for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as a cell biology research assistant at Harvard University Medical School, and as an analytical chemist at the Massachusetts Pesticide Analysis Laboratory. She earned her bachelors degree in biochemistry from Amherst College.

  • Brian Youngblood Brian Youngblood IT Manager, Practice Greenhealth and Health Care Without Harm

    As the Information Technology Manager, Brian is responsible for managing, integrating and developing solutions that Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth uses to engage its members and partners. Brian is the co-author of GeoServer Beginner’s Guide, a book that teaches others in the Information Technology sector how they can embrace GeoServer (a open source Geographic Information System application) to visually analyze, interpret, edit and share interactive web-based maps. Prior to joining Practice Greenhealth, Brian was the Online Operations Manager and Technical Lead at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for 14 years. Brian also enjoys riding his motorcycle in charity events, reading about the bleeding edge of technology and perfecting the art of brewing a great beer.
