The HAN Impact Purchasing Commitment (HAN IPC) was developed by a design team of HAN members, in addition to Healthcare Anchor Network and Practice Greenhealth staff.
With more than 1,100 network partners, nationwide, many of which are already part of the Healthcare Anchor Network, Practice Greenhealth offers Commitment participants access to a suite of tools and resources to jumpstart any of the sustainability goals.

Many health care facilities start their sustainability journey by considering how their sustainability work supports or contributes to the organization’s mission, vision, and values through the creation of an environmental mission or commitment statement. By making this your first step, an effective sustainability strategy will build on the organization’s purpose and contribute value versus being a drain on resources. This process is also helpful to revisit as often as there are major changes to the organization’s direction.

Antonia is well-versed in climate change work that focuses on protecting public health. Her previous climate work includes roles at Physicians for Social Responsibility and the National Resources Defense Council. She holds a doctoral degree in physics from the University of California, San Diego and a master’s degree in applied physics from Columbia University. Antonia has lived in Washington, D.C. since 2002 with her husband and son.

Prior to joining Health Care Without Harm, Mariano worked as Oxfam’s global program manager and led the organization’s advocacy work in Brazil, Russia, India, Indonesia, China, South Africa, Mexico, and Turkey. He led multi-issue campaigns and managed a flagship program to empower civil society networks. Mariano brings extensive experience working with civil society networks and coalitions to influence change at the national and global levels.

The Emerging Physician Leader Award, established by the Health Care Without Harm Physician Network in 2018, recognizes medical students, residents, and fellows who have demonstrated a passion for sustainable health care or a commitment to climate and health leadership.
