Hospitals are offering healthier menus, working with farmers to purchase locally and sustainably grown products, moving toward plant-forward menus, and going beyond their walls to help meet the food needs of their community in an effort to support the health of their patients, staff, surrounding community and the environment. Food service data can be complicated by the accessibility of the data and a number of different data owners.

(Safer hand hygiene toolkit) Triclosan and triclocarban in hand soaps are no more effective in preventing the transmission of microorganisms than other products, including alternative antimicrobial hand soaps and regular soaps; may increase the risk of more generalized antibiotic resistance; kill a narrower spectrum of organisms; are widespread in the environment; and can have adverse health effects in several animal species, including mammals.
These goals will help your facility eliminate hand hygiene products that contain tricolosan and triclocarbon.

Simply defined, a hazardous waste is a waste with properties that make it dangerous or capable of having a harmful effect on human health or the environment. Hazardous waste is generated from many sources, ranging from industrial manufacturing process wastes to batteries and may come in many forms, including liquids, solids gases, and sludges.
EPA developed a regulatory definition and process that identifies specific substances known to be hazardous and provides objective criteria for including other materials in the regulated hazardous waste universe.

Environmental degradation of the St. Croix River prompted community leaders of its border communities to come together to address the issue and resolve to improve river health by improving operations in their respective organizations. Hudson Hospital & Clinic successfully implemented a paper use reduction initiative and enhanced recycling program, which became a building block to ongoing organizational performance improvement. Since 2010, Hudson Hospital and Clinic achieved a median recycling rate of 37.60 percent of total hospital waste.

Roy (he/him) oversees investments for one of the nation’s largest faith-based health systems, which includes operating capital and employee retirement portfolios totaling approximately $20 billion. He co-leads the company's environmental profile transformation including all emissions, waste, and water streams, and cooperates on the company-wide environmental, social, and governance reporting. Roy, who has 30 years of institutional investment experience, oversees a 13-person investment team that manages over half of the organization’s operating capital internally.

John has been in the sustainability field for over a decade, and most recently at Harvard University’s Office for Sustainability, where he helped advance their healthier building materials program. John earned an MBA and a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University, and he graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a B.S. in molecular and cellular biology. At the start of his career, he worked as a cancer researcher at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. John is excited to be advocating for his two passions: sustainability and public health.

The educational content is in alignment with the Practice Greenhealth's six-category framework: Engaged leadership, leaner energy, healthier food, less Waste, safer chemicals, and smarter purchasing.
