Kristen has worked in university sustainability offices and urban sustainability nonprofits, where she’s led zero waste, social sustainability, and strategic planning efforts. She believes justice, wellness, and community health are fundamental parts of sustainability. She has a B.A. in anthropology and sustainability and an M.S. in environmental governance. (Transportation toolkit) Gasoline-powered vehicles are major sources of greenhouse gases (GHGs), smog-forming compounds, particulate matter, and other air pollutants. Widespread use of alternative fuels and advanced vehicles, including plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) can reduce the emissions that impact our air quality and public health. Employers are well-positioned to install non-residential charging where it is needed most, as PEV drivers park their cars at the workplace for 6.5 to 8 or more hours a day.

What is composting?
Compost is created from the decomposition of landscape and food wastes. In a finished product, it is a dark, crumbly and earthy-smelling material that appears similar to soil. Composting provides institutions with a method to dispose of a large portion of these waste streams in a way that benefits their bottom line and the environment.
