(Safer hand hygiene toolkit) Triclosan and triclocarban in hand soaps are no more effective in preventing the transmission of microorganisms than other products, including alternative antimicrobial hand soaps and regular soaps; may increase the risk of more generalized antibiotic resistance; kill a narrower spectrum of organisms; are widespread in the environment; and can have adverse health effects in several animal species, including mammals.
These goals will help your facility eliminate hand hygiene products that contain tricolosan and triclocarbon.

From earning a LEED Gold certification for the new Mission Bay Hospitals to reducing water use by 13% since 2014 to saving more than $1M from reprocessing single use devices, UCSFMC continued to live its commitment to leadership in health and sustainability during 2015. John has been in the sustainability field for over a decade, and most recently at Harvard University’s Office for Sustainability, where he helped advance their healthier building materials program. John earned an MBA and a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University, and he graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a B.S. in molecular and cellular biology. At the start of his career, he worked as a cancer researcher at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. John is excited to be advocating for his two passions: sustainability and public health.
