Healthier Hospitals (HH) was a great success due to the thousands of hospitals and health systems that committed to the six challenges to improve sustainability performance. It represented a shared leadership around healthier communities and provided hospitals of all sizes with free tools and resources that help focus sustainability efforts on the health care sector's biggest areas of opportunity and risk. Our success is due in large part to the strong partnerships we've formed with health care organizations and other nonprofit organizations.
In many cases, these challenges helped get sustainability efforts and programs off the ground at participating hospitals. And, we learned a lot from our HH partners and have migrated the HH framework and resources into Practice Greenhealth’s vast inventory of tools for its partners.
Practice Greenhealth has been transitioning the way products that meet criteria are communicated. The Greenhealth Approved program was launched in late 2019 and included the medical products, carpet and flooring categories.
Beginning August 1, 2022, Greenhealth Approved will be adding the Furnishings category to its program. This expansion will include a collaboration with the Business Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) to reduce the need for furnishing manufacturers to submit data to two different entities for vetting. Details can be found on the furnishings section of the Greenhealth Approved website.
