Leaders from federal and private health systems will share strategies for achieving ambitious climate goals. From innovative decarbonization strategies to long-term electrification plans to emergency response preparedness and more, leading systems are paving the way for climate action.
Health systems are increasingly committing to ambitious climate mitigation and resilience goals. In 2021, the Biden Administration committed to health sector decarbonization, affecting VA and DHA hospitals nationally. More than 800 hospitals committed to the HHS Health Sector Climate Pledge for private entities, which launched in 2022. Across the country, health systems are committing to reducing scopes 1 and 2 emissions 50% by 2030 and 100% by 2050, and to establishing Scope 3 emissions inventories and climate resilience plans.
