Co-designing climate resilience: Building equitable community partnerships

Date range
July 15, 2026
2–3 pm ET (11 am–12 pm PT)
public
Description

When climate disasters strike, the emergency room is often the first place communities turn – but by the time patients arrive at your doors, it may be too late to meaningfully reduce the harm.

Join this session to explore how health systems build the deep community partnerships needed to plan ahead, respond effectively, and recover equitably from climate disruption. Examples will draw from community resilience initiatives currently underway in four regions across the country.

Whether your health system is just beginning its climate resilience journey or looking to strengthen existing community ties, this session will offer actionable guidance for supporting equitable, community-centered climate resilience – before the next emergency arrives.

“Build those relationships in peacetime, so you have them when you need them.” – Dr. Alexander Garza, SSM Health

Examples featured in this session are drawn from Place-Based Initiatives, a collaborative effort that brings health systems and community partners together to strengthen equitable climate resilience. Learn more: Place-Based Initiatives
