CleanMed 2024: How 2 health systems are meeting HHS Health Sector Climate Pledge targets
Health systems are grappling with internal and external drivers to reduce GHG emissions, including community health impacts of climate change, proposed Joint Commission standards for environmental sustainability, and risk disclosure requests, as well as federal, state, and local programs and regulations. In particular, the HHS Health Sector Climate Pledge has motivated planning exercises related to reducing scopes 1 and 2 GHG emissions.
Hear about the actions two health systems – NYU Langone Health in New York and OSF HealthCare in Illinois – are taking to meet HHS Health Sector Climate Pledge targets. Sustainability leaders from each system will review their approaches to meeting Climate Pledge goals, including underlying assumptions, cost benefit analysis, resource needs, actions, and progress. Presenters will also discuss alignment to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) decarbonization framework, state renewable portfolio standards, carbon pricing, funding impact on project development, and data visualization tools for showing progress and glide paths to 2030 targets. This session will include group sharing, live polling, and questions.
