CleanMed 2024: Building effective sustainability governance - A tale of 3 hospitals

Three health system sustainability managers describe their organizations’ sustainability journeys, offering insights on how to engage and manage stakeholder expectations, build momentum, increase program visibility, and create effective governance structures.

Using Practice Greenhealth’s Program Fundamentals and Effective Governance toolkits as frameworks, presenters will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the three programs and the struggles and successes they faced while integrating sustainability within their organizations. Speakers will evaluate the effectiveness of historical and current governance structures, explore the importance of an executive sponsor or liaison in the C-suite, and share key ways to engage an executive sponsor that increase program visibility, engagement, and overall impact.

Participants are encouraged to share their own struggles and successes through polls and a group discussion. All conference attendees are invited to attend, but levels 1 and 2 will likely derive the most benefit from the session.
