Join Northwell Health, SSM Health, and AdventHealth to get the details on how to develop strong governance including reporting to your CEO and Board of Trustees; establish decarbonization goals in partnership with different stakeholders; and gather and analyze data for a GHG inventory. Learn how our experts utilized an enterprise scaled approach including a cloud-based emissions inventory and publishing annual sustainability reports. Finish the workshop with some GHG inventory mythbusting.

Amber (she/her) is the director of sustainability at Northwell Health, the largest health system in New York, comprised of 21 hospitals and 850 outpatient facilities. In her current role, she supports the development of Northwell's long-term environmental sustainability strategy and manages the implementation of decarbonization initiatives across all departments. She previously worked at the New York City department of sanitation, the world's largest sanitation department. There, she led zero waste programming in schools, offices, universities, and public housing developments. As a New York native, she strives to create a more sustainable, equitable environment for her communities.

Adam (he/him) is the Sustainability Manager at SSM Healthcare, a healthcare system consisting of 23 hospitals and over 600 medical facilities across Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. Adam is responsible for various environmental sustainability initiatives, including reducing SSM Health’s carbon footprint to Net Zero by 2050. Adam holds a degree in Architectural Sustainability from Boston Architectural College, where he completed an award-winning thesis on “How Cultural Sustainability helps to overcome marginalization and gentrification.” Adam is also passionate about serving the communities where he lives and works. He actively volunteers with various youth groups, mentoring them in the design industry and professional development. Adam is the Director of Development and Construction for Pocketparks, a non-profit focused on activating vacant spaces in St. Louis into beautiful park spaces. Adam is also a licensed minister and works in various ministries at his local church.

Edgerton (he/him) has over 30 years of sustainability experience in medical and residential architecture and construction. He previously spent 11 years as the sustainability and construction coordinator for Providence Health System in southwest Washington and finished his time with Providence as a facility engineering manager for two different hospital campuses. Edgerton joined Health Care Without Harm in 2020 and supports U.S. health systems in their efforts to decarbonize and to build climate resilience. He specializes in helping U.S. health systems develop comprehensive GHG emission inventories and develop action plans to reduce emissions or achieve net-zero emissions.

Shanda Demorest, DNP supports the Sustainability Solutions team in advancing environmental sustainability throughout the health care sector. Dr. Demorest earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Health Innovation and Leadership from the University of Minnesota, and she holds the LEED Green Associate credential through the U.S. Green Building Council. A cardiovascular nurse with horticultural training, Shanda is co-founder of the Nurses Climate Challenge: A national campaign to educate 50,000 health professionals about the health impacts of climate change. Dr. Demorest serves as an Affiliate Faculty member at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing.
