Description

Change happens through people. A successful sustainability program builds a culture that embodies its environmental mission within the assumptions and beliefs of its staff – sustainability then becomes everybody’s job. Further, engaged staff are often willing to play a role in interorganizational collaboration, influencing the supply chain and other key stakeholders.

This session identified key stakeholders, communication tools, proven engagement practices, and clinical engagement opportunities, and how to avoid pitfalls. Facilitators also guided participants through a series of interactive exercises, exploring how to adapt employee engagement strategies that have proven successful in other departments to sustainability issues, what engagement really means, and strategic stakeholder partnering, organizing, and delegating.

Key takeaways included:

  • Ways to investigate examples of how sustainability can be communicated through one-way messaging such as websites, reports, and media.
  • Identified opportunities for human resources to facilitate an active exchange of information with employees on sustainability issues to understand challenges further and build trust.
  • Explored how to assess the value of strategic engagement of clinical professionals in your organization’s sustainability program.

This on-demand session is part of the Accelerating Health Care Sustainability series. Viewing it and taking a short quiz qualifies as one of four required sessions to receive the Sustainability Program Fundamentals Certificate of Completion.
