Practice Greenhealth offers members report cards to enhance goal-setting

Environmental stewardship in a health care environment can take many forms. From waste reduction and safer chemicals to building design and energy conservation, there are an array of opportunities for continuous improvement. Sustainability leaders have to make difficult choices about prioritizing the work that matters most to the organization while balancing staff resources.

The sustainability performance data provided by Practice Greenhealth’s benchmark report cards can offer a solid foundation for sustainability goal development. Each hospital’s report card delineates an annual snapshot of facility performance on 30 different metrics while also providing a percentile comparison to other member hospitals. The report cards include the 90th percentile performance point, highlighting what is achievable for committed hospitals in each programmatic area.

Practice Greenhealth’s Environmental Excellence Awards program provides a platform to annually assess which programs are in place and to capture the stories that illustrate health care’s sustainability successes. But for organizations as data-driven as health care, the annual report card also provides a unique opportunity to assess just how well the hospital or health care facility is executing its commitment to a variety of sustainability initiatives.
