Bio

Alice T. Chen, MD, is a mom, internal medicine physician, and national leader in public health, physician advocacy, and community organizing.  She serves as chair of the board of directors of Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth. She was a founding board member and executive director for Doctors for America, a grassroots organization of physicians and medical students in all 50 states that played a key role in the passage of the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion in multiple states and continues to advocate for policies that benefit patients. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she served as Senior Advisor to Made to Save, a national COVID-19 vaccine outreach and equity campaign that brought together a coalition of 1600 diverse organizations and funded 110 community-based organizations. She has since published several articles, including in Health Affairs and the Stanford Social Innovation Review, on the importance of reimagining public health by creating strong partnerships that allow communities to lead.
 

Dr. Chen is a primary care physician at a federally qualified health center in Washington, DC, after serving on the faculty of UCLA and George Washington University Schools of Medicine.  She was previously a Hauser Visiting Leader at the Harvard Kennedy School Center for Public Leadership.  She also serves on boards and as an advisor for many organizations, including the RAND School of Public Policy, the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health, Accelerate Resilience Los Angeles, and Roon.  She received her undergraduate degree from Yale University, medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College, and completed internal medicine residency at UCLA.
