{Past Event} - Kaiser Permanente’s Sustainability Scorecard for Medical Products: Generation II

May 13, 2011 - 1:00 pm - May 13, 2011 - 1:00 pm -- Eastern Standard Time

Kaiser Permanente Score Card (click to download)

We encourage representatives from medical suppliers, GPOs, and supply chain representatives from health systems and facilities to attend. The call will convene with a 20 minute presentation by Kaiser Permanente on their revised Sustainability Scorecard for Medical Products, which will be included in the Kaiser Permanente RFP template for all medical and surgical products. The presentation will explain the purpose of the Scorecard, how it functions, and how Generation II differs from the first version of the Scorecard. The remainder of the call will be open for questions about Scorecard mechanics, how suppliers should prepare to participate in bids, as well as how any health system or GPO can use this scorecard as a standard purchasing tool. Feel free to invite individuals who are most appropriate for this presentation and discussion, but the conversation will be tailored to respond to questions from suppliers and purchasers.

  • Understand the environmental considerations on the Generation II Sustainability Scorecard
  • Hear what role the Scorecard plays at Kaiser Permanente and why
  • Learn how to use the Scorecard in your purchasing process
  • Obtain direct responses to your questions in the first of two webinar opportunities on the Scorecard.

Rachael Baker, Kaiser Permanente
Rachael Baker joined Kaiser Permanente 3 years ago as their first Environmental Supply Chain Manager, responsible for leading the national Environmentally Preferred Purchasing (EPP) program. In her role, Rachael works within the procurement and supply chain department to ensure environmental criteria are deeply imbedded in the daily practice of procurement. The program utilizes a variety of sourcing strategies, business forums and disclosure mechanisms to uncover and capture opportunities that benefit the environment, human health, and our bottom line. Over the past few years EPP has grown to become a key criterion in Kaiser Permanente’s procurement decisions. In 2010, the EPP program delivered projects that will result in $26 Million in annual savings, over 5 million Kwh of energy conserved, 300 tons of plastic waste eliminated, and substantial reductions in consumption of hazardous metals and toxic chemicals. Rachael also co-chairs the Safer Chemicals committee of Kaiser Permanente’s Environmental Stewardship Work Group. Rachael has worked to improve environmental stewardship in the healthcare field for the past seven years focusing on operations, healthy food, green building, and procurement. She holds an M.S. in Environmental Policy from the Bard Center for Environmental Policy in N.Y. and is a LEED Accredited Professional from the USGBC. She lives in Berkeley, CA with her husband and daughter.
