{Past Event} - Hospitals for a Healthy Environment Group Purchasing Organization Series

Topic

A commitment to the environment and safety starts with the materials we purchase. Would you like to know more about the resources your Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) offers to help you implement environmental purchasing strategies? Would you like to let your GPO know what environmentally preferable products and services you are looking for? Do you know who your GPO is? Join H2E for our new GPO teleconference series, designed to help GPOs and Partner facilities communicate with each other about environmental purchasing initiatives! H2E’s Champion GPOs are working hard to provide alternatives to mercury, latex, glutaraldehyde, ethylene oxide, and toxic cleaning chemicals. They are contracting for environmentally sensitive waste management and reprocessing services and are looking for energy and water efficient equipment and other options to help facilities reach their goals of providing a true healing environment.

Each GPO Champion (Amerinet, Broadlane, Consorta, MedAssets, Novation, Premier) is invited to hold its own teleconference to explain internal Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) programs, but also to hear from members about programs or resources they would like to see offered as part of the GPO’s environmental purchasing program. Though we do not plan to restrict participation, each call will be especially directed at Partner facilities who are members of the specific GPO represented. These calls are not just for Purchasing or Materials management staff! We are hoping that they will serve to inform and empower a broad range of other facility staff working on environmental initiatives –Facilities, Laboratory, Housekeeping, Plant Operations, Clinical Staff — to better understand the relationship with their GPO and how they can use GPO resources to forward their efforts at the ground level.

Takehome Value

H2E’s GPO Champions are taking significant steps toward improving the environmental performance and reducing the environmental impact of the products and services they offer. Join us when your GPO is presenting, to find out how you can partner with your GPO to move this effort forward, and how you can profit from the work already accomplished! Ensure that material handling issues and environmental impact are addressed on your facility’s new products evaluation committees. Give that material a voice!
