Laura Kinney of MultiCare Health System will introduce change management and quality improvement techniques as a method of integrating environmental improvement activities into the culture of an organization. Uday Shah of AtlantiCare will walk us through their approach on paper prevention, as a cost savings initiative, enviromental improvement and efficiency effort. Learn from Uday about team development, data collection, gap analysis, investigation, program development, implementation, tracking and reporting. Change is good! Laura currently works as an Organization Effectiveness Consultant (on-staff) for MultiCare Health System in Tacoma, WA. Multicare is the South Puget Sound’s largest provider of health care services, serving patients at 93 locations in Pierce, South King, Kitsap and Thurston counties. She is the chair and operation owner of the Environmental Sustainability committee for Multicare. Laura’s background spans many industries as she has a B.A. in Biology and M.S. in Fisheries Management (thesis defense pending) and worked in fisheries for several years before moving into a career as a quality management professional. Laura’s quality career began in the automotive industry by implementing QS-9000, a quality management system, for several automotive suppliers and she is now a Senior Lead Examiner and Process and Education Mentor for the Washington State Quality Award and a Baldrige National Quality Award Examiner. Laura changed her career path to move into healthcare after conducting a state site visit for a Baldrige examination when she realized how much the quality principles and methods used in industry could help healthcare make the changes needed to evolve into high performing organizations to meet the changing needs of patients and communities. Laura is the Chair of the Seattle Section of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and Quality Management Planning Chair for the Healthcare Division of ASQ.

In his role as Web Manager, Matt Foote oversees E-marketing and web development for AtlantiCare, the largest health system in southeastern New Jersey. AtlantiCare consists of AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC), a 567-bed hospital with campuses in Atlantic City and Pomona NJ, and sixty other locations providing health and wellness services throughout the region. Matt has over 15 years of experience in marketing and web development across three industries. As coordinator of AtlantiCare’s Green Team, Matt is proud to work with over sixty volunteers committed to environmental sustainability. Matt has also had the honor of serving as an Examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program in 2008 and 2009. Matt holds a B.A. in Politics from Earlham College in Richmond, IN, and an M.B.A. in Healthcare Administration from La Salle University in Philadelphia.

Uday Shah is the IT Audit Manager for AtlantiCare Health System in South Eastern New Jersey. AtlantiCare ( is a 567-bed teaching hospital with two campuses and sixty other locations providing various health care related services. Uday is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) with 15 years of experience in information technology, business process improvement, and IT Audit. Uday is part of AtlantiCare’s Green Initiative launched in 2008, working on opportunities to reduce paper usage, and increase recycling. He has a team of volunteers from various departments across the organization and launched a pilot project in early 2009 with plans to expand in the second half of 2009. Uday is member of Net Impact, an international organization with focus on CSR, social entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability. Uday is also an avid supporter of Arbor Day Foundation, and member of Rotary International.
