This 1.5 hour webinar will introduce healthcare facilities to an emerging area of environmental regulation: climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Come learn how your facility may be affected by regulation and/or financial disclosure requirements and familiarize yourself with tools and resources that can assist you in meeting your regulatory obligations as well as enhance your green profile.

  • Obtain an overview of the North American regulatory landscape, including federal, regional and state programs and how Hospitals and the Healthcare industry may be impacted

Walt Vernon is Principal of Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch (M+NLB) an engineering firm with offices in Baton Rouge, LA, Denver, CO, Houston, TX, Irvine, CA, Nashville, TN, Portland, OR, Sacramento, CA and San Francisco, CA. M+NLB specializes in the design, construction, and commissioning of healthcare, laboratory, mission critical and university facilities. For the past several years, M+NLB has focused on energy and climate change mitigations and is has created a specialized Climate Change Consulting group, BLUE. Mr. Vernon is Chairman of the NFPA 99 (Health Care Code) Electrical Systems Committee. He is co-Chair of the IEEE/ANSI Standard for the Design of Electrical Systems in Healthcare Facilities. He is the Electrical Engineer for California Hospital Building Safety Board. Vernon serves on the FGI’s Healthcare Guidelines Revision Committee, which creates the document that serves as the building code for healthcare facilities in most states across the country. He also serves on the 2010 Advocacy Committee of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering. Mr. Vernon is a LEED Accredited professional, one of three co-coordinators for Green Guide for Health Care, formerly on the Steering Committee for LEED for Existing Buildings, formerly on the Steering Committee for USGBC Greening the Codes committee, and currently on the Kaiser Permanente High Performance Building Committee. He is working with several healthcare clients to finance and implement renewable energy systems in their facilities, leading various healthcare energy research projects in collaboration with LBNL, and working with Kaiser on a study of the use of displacement ventilation systems in healthcare buildings. Vernon has a BS in mathematics and philosophy, BSEE in electrical engineering, an MBA, and a JD. He is a licensed PE in 42 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam.
