Energy Conservation Strategies for Hospitals will offer an overview and case studies that illustrate how to minimize energy use in hospitals without compromising facility operations.

Kim Shinn, TLC Engineering for Architecture
Kim Shinn, PE, is a registered professional mechanical engineer in fourteen states and a Principal with TLC Engineering for Architecture (, as well as TLC's Director of Sustainable Design. He is AABC Consulting Group Certified Commissioning Authority. Kim is a Certified Professional Services Marketer, and is currently President of the Nashville Chapter of the Society of Marketing for Professional Services (SMPS). Kim is a co-founder and Chairman of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the US Green Building Council (USGBC). He has been a USGBC LEED 2.0 Accredited Professional since May 2001, and has been actively involved in the design or commissioning of over two dozen LEED registered and certified projects, including higher education, courthouse, hospital, laboratory LEED-NC and pilot projects for LEED Commercial Interiors and LEED Core and Shell. Kim has helped create the Green Guide for Health Care (GGHC) and is on the LEED committees to draft application guides for laboratories, healthcare and campus combined heat/cooling/ power systems.

Robert Moroz, Healthcare Facilities Consultation and Planning
Robert Moroz is President of Healthcare Facilities Consultation and Planning in Austin, Texas, and a registered architect in five States. The company provides Project Launching, Functional and Space Programming, Facilities Master Planning, Sustainable Design, and Combined Heat and Power consultation services for Hospitals and Medical Research Facilities. During his career, he has worked in every position involved in the development of health facilities: owner, architect, consultant, and builder. He serves on the Steering Committee of The Green Guide for Health Care, is a member of Ascension Health System's Patient Centered Design Committee, and volunteers with the Gulf Coast Regional Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Applications Center at the Houston Advanced Research Center in furthering its mission to help the US Department of Energy meet its goal of doubling the nation's CHP capacity within the next 10 years. Most recently, as Design Phase Program Director for the Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas, he guided the highly successful GGHC Pilot/LEED Platinum program initiative. Once certified, this will be the first hospital to be so recognized in the World.
