{Past Event} - Green Build: The New Hospital Prototype: Small Hospitals, Big Ideas

Health care reform has created many new pressures on the healthcare system. Kaiser Permanente, the nation's largest integrated healthcare network anticipates a 25% growth in membership over the next decade as a result of this change, coupled with a ratcheting up of the imperative to operate efficiently and cost-effectively. To plan its next generation of prototypes, Kaiser Permanente issued a world-wide call for ideas to create a generation of hospitals that will support a leaner, more environmentally effective, more financially sound healthcare system. This session, by Kaiser' Permanente's Executive Director for National Facilities Services and the leaders of one of the competition finalists will examine KP's goals for the project, the kinds of responses received, and the thinking embedded in the three final submissions.

Bob Gulick, P.E., LEED AP, Mazzetti

As one of the founding principals of Mazzetti Portland office, Bob has been a hands-on leader of the firm for over 28 years. A licensed mechanical engineer in Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Virginia, his innovative approach has contributed to award-winning, state-of-the-future sustainable designs. He has participated in the design og 15 LEED projects, three of which are gold certified. Bob has played a significant design role in hospital central plant design and major healthcare facilities. He is a member and past Oregon Chapter President of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers, and is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Consulting Engineers of Oregon.
