Building commissioning offers a variety of benefits, including improved occupant productivity, energy cost savings, increased occupant and owner satisfaction, and enhanced environmental health conditions. This topic will be discussed along with the benefits of updating the operatons of older hospital buildings to achieve optimum performance and energy efficiency.

HKS DesignGreen is a fulltime department dedicated to overseeing all aspects of sustainability. As a manager within this department, Chris Mundell organizes, produces, and implements sustainable services for a project. These services include assisting the project design team with sustainable strategies, managing either LEED or GGHC documentation, and researching new sustainable products and technologies. In addition, Chris leads the education and training of HKS employees who are preparing for the LEED AP exam. Outside of HKS, Chris is an active member of the USGBC North Texas Chapter and the CSI Dallas Chapter. For both organizations, he helps in creating and planning events for the local design professional and building community. One particular event is the North Tx Sustainable Showcase, which provides a venue for displaying sustainable products and services. As the Chair of this event for the past two years, Chris leads a team of volunteers who help organize it. Before his role with the HKS DesignGreen department, Chris was a project architect with 14 years of experience. He has worked on Healthcare, Education, Assembly, and Commercial projects. Chris was responsible for coordinating with the client, contractor, and consultants throughout each phase of a project.

Kevin has been in the building systems industry for 16 years. He is experienced in commissioning, troubleshooting of mechanical systems, cleanroom performance testing, test and balance, and electrical power monitoring. He has worked on many different types of facilities including health care, laboratory research, high tech fabrication, office buildings, and schools. In his current position, Kevin both manages commissioning projects and continues to perform field commissioning services. He has been with Northwest Engineering Service, Inc. since 1997. Kevin works to maximize the effectiveness of commissioning by fostering cooperation of all project team members, and by tailoring the commissioning process to the particulars of the project – particular which include the skills of project team members and the method of project delivery. Working to improve the commissioning process and sharing commissioning information are particular interests of Kevin. His most recent presentation – “Managing the Line Between Cx Provider and MEP Coordinator” was delivered at the 2008 National Conference on Building Commissioning (NCBC). At this year’s NCBC, he will present “Managing the Line Between Cx Provider and Design Engineer”. Other commissioning interests of Kevin include using the building automation system to monitoring energy use and to confirm function of building systems via trend logs. Kevin has a Bachelor of Science in Math Education from Oregon State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Portland State University.

Tim Angerame, Utility Programs and Metering II
Since joining in the summer of 2006 he has been involved with the implementation and ongoing energy savings created by the utiliVisor metering and monitoring platform; specifically focusing on large chilled water systems. Prior to joining Utility Programs and Metering II, Mr. Angerame sailed as a licensed Third Assistant engineer for Keystone Tankers and worked for York International in Manhattan as a sales engineer for five years. Mr. Angerame is a Certified Energy Manager, LEED Accredited Professional and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional. He graduated from SUNY Maritime College in 2000 with a Bachelors in Marine Engineering. UP&M II’s clients include hospitals such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Mount Sinai medical Center as well as pharmaceutical companies like Wyeth Pharma and Seattle Genetics.

Natale DiDonato, Luthin Associates

Mr. DiDonato has over thirty years of experience in the energy services industry in the New York Metropolitan area. He has been with Luthin associates since 2006 where he heads up their Sustainability Division. Nat’s responsibilities include developing master plans, benchmarking, and procuring energy conservation services for Luthin Associates’ clients. Luthin Associates is an energy consulting firm that specializes in hospitals and universities. Major clients include Memorial Sloan Kettering, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Continuum Health Partners, and Montefiore Medical Center. In previous positions Nat, has worked for both ESCOs and utilities and has significant experience in procuring and implementing a wide variety of energy services. He has also been responsible for economic development activities and customer relationship management for many of the largest energy users the New York region. Nat has a Master of Public Administration in Public Policy from New York University and a graduate certificate in Energy Management from the New York Institute of Technology.
