Join Practice Greenhealth and Health Care without Harm for this free Webinar on Climate Literacy in preparation for Earth Day activities! New this year, Health Care without Harm and Practice Greenhealth are hosting a free Climate Literacy webinar on Climate Change and Public Health. The webinars will feature a new Power Point presentation, which focuses on the health effects of climate change and the role of the health care sector, prepared by the Climate and Health Literacy Consortium. This power point will be recorded and available for use during Earth Week Activities and can be accessed by PGH Members in the Archive Section of our website. The Power Point is also available for use with notes to support a presentation by sustainability leaders at your facility or organization.

Objectives

  • Participants will understand the science of climate change, how global temperatures are increasing and the environmental impacts of those changes in the ecology of our planet.
  • Participants will understand how the environmental impacts of climate change will affect human health.
  • Participants will understand how the health care sector can participate in mitigating the effects of climate change in seven areas: food service, water conservation, transportation, green building design, energy conservation and efficiency, waste disposal and management, and alternative energy generation.
  • Participants will understand how the health care sector can implement adaptation strategies to be better prepared to address the health impacts that will result from climate change.

David McCombs,Vice President of Enterprise Resource Planning/ Supply Chain Operations for the Bon Secours Health System, a $2.3 billion not-for-profit Catholic health system. McCombs was named to this position in 2002. McCombs is responsible for directing the Bon Secours Health System’s implementation of the Lawson enterprise resource planning system and its supply chain operations. This includes the operation of the Lawson finance and procurement system components at all facilities, materials management and directing system-wide supply standardization and cost savings initiatives. A 25-year veteran of health care operations, McCombs served as executive vice president/administrator of the Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center from 1997 to 2002. Prior to his tenure with Bon Secours, McCombs was chief operating officer of the Moses Cone Hospital, a 550-bed not-for-profit community teaching hospital in Greensboro, N.C. McCombs started his career as assistant administrator of a 400-bed community hospital and progressed in responsibility to include being the administrator of a 150-bed rural hospital and administrator of a 300-bed community hospital, all in the Carolinas.
