2018 Visionary Leader Award Winner

Bob Biggio

Senior Vice President of Facilities and Support Services
Boston Medical Center, Boston, Mass

Bob Biggio is the Senior Vice President of Facilities and Support Services at Boston Medical Center and has been there since 2011. He directly oversees facilities, support services, public safety, supply chain, design/construction, and real estate. Within this role he is working to help make Boston Medical Center the greenest hospital in all of New England. As the architect of BMC’s $300 million campus redesign project, he put environmental stewardship initiatives at the forefront of making BMC’s campus the newest, most efficient in the region. This, coupled with the solar power purchase agreement, has BMC’s energy supply to be on pace to be net zero for greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. He also led the installation of a rooftop garden that harvested 5,000 pounds of vegetables for patient meals and the hospital’s cafeterias, food pantry, and teaching kitchen in 2017. During his time at Boston Medical Center, he was awarded the Norman B Leventhal Environment Award for Excellence in City Building. Also due to his leadership the hospital was awarded the 2014 Energy Project of the Year Award by the National Association of Energy Engineers, New England Chapter. BMC was recognized in both 2017 and 2018 as one of the top 25 hospitals in the country for its distinguished work in pursuing environmental excellence.
