Practice Greenhealth Welcomes Sodexo as a Business Member

Commits to support the health care sector with patient and staff-specific food services.

January 21, 2015 (Reston, Virginia)– Practice Greenhealth announced today that Sodexo has joined its community of more than 1,300 leading health care organizations and suppliers to the sector who act as change agents and healing forces in their communities on behalf of patients, staff, and the environment at large.  Sodexo is a leader in delivering sustainable, integrated facilities management and food service operations that enhance individual well-being, improve organizational performance and make a positive impact in the local community.

Practice Greenhealth is a nonprofit membership organization, offering its members a full range of tools, resources, forums, technical assistance, and networking opportunities to engage the health care sector in creating safe and healthy environments by implementing sustainable practices into day-to-day operations.  Founded and driven by the principles of positive environmental stewardship and best practices by organizations in the health care community, Practice Greenhealth includes hospitals, health care facilities, community health centers, and businesses such as architecture and engineering firms, product and service providers, as well as like-minded non-governmental organizations.

“We are looking forward to working with Practice Greenhealth members based on our mutually shared values, by collaborating with them to identify needs and bring new and innovative solutions that impact the quality of life for patients, their loved ones, and hospital staff,” said Patrick Connolly, President of Sodexo Health Care.

Sodexo was named Global Sustainability Industry Leader in its sector for the 10th year in a rowby the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the longest-running global sustainability benchmark worldwide and the key reference point in sustainability investing, for investors and companies alike.

Sodexo initiatives have provided turnkey programming with measurable impact.  For example, food waste reduction programs have decreased food waste by 3 to 10 percent with a large positive environmental impact.  Menu choices that offer up to 50 percent of selections as vegetarian and vegan options that appeal to consumers have resulted in more customers making choices that positively impact their health and the environment.

Sodexo and Practice Greenhealth plan to work together to research what food sustainability issues are most important to patients, staff, and hospital administrators and apply that knowledge to the development of programs that have a positive impact on engaging consumers to make healthy changes.

With the many resources available through Practice Greenhealth membership, health care organizations and businesses alike will reach new heights of business success and ensure sustainable health care that’s good for the environment, good for patients and staff, and good for the bottom line.

“Sodexo knows that nutritious, tasty, clinically adapted meals are critical to patient recovery,” said Jeffrey Brown, Practice Greenhealth Executive Director. “It’s this type of commitment that makes them a natural fit within the Practice Greenhealth community—we welcome them as the first Practice Greenhealth food service provider business member.”
