BLOG: Data, Normalizers and Benchmarks—OH MY!
We are all familiar with baseline data collection, goal setting and performance measurement. We use measurable goals for joint commission, for green team progress, quality improvement and more. Environmental stewardship and “going green” can be measured both qualitatively and quantitatively, and the Practice Greenhealth 3rd Annual Sustainability Benchmark Report is the “go to” source for sustainability benchmarks in health care. The benchmark report is authored by Practice Greenhealth’s Lin Hill and is based on data from the Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Awards.
The benchmark report is a membership benefit and can be used for comparison around materials and wastes, energy and red bag generation rates, to name just a few. It can also be used for qualitative comparison, like, how many award winners have EPP Policies or have a designated sustainability coordinator?
Is your facility or organization accessing the benchmark report for short-, medium- and long-term goals? What benchmarks are most helpful to you and what do you wish was there that isn’t? Let us know!
