Become a Change Agent

Change for the good is something we should all strive for. A change agent is someone who "alters human capability or organizational systems to achieve a higher degree of output or self actualization."

What does this mean in a health care setting? We want to make changes that stick, that result in enabling staff to do more.

A change agent holds a vision of what could be and uses that as their driving force. They aren’t satisfied with what they see around them, and strive for a much better vision of the future.

A change agent is fueled by passion, and inspires passion in others. Change is hard work. Without passion, it is difficult to create change in the comfort of status quo that seems to exist.

A change agent has a strong ability to self-motivate. The real validation is in doing what is right for the sake of making a difference.

A change agent must understand people. People must embrace and support change in order to stick with it. Being a change agent is a multi-dimensional job of sales, counseling, and encouragement.

The health care sector has the power to bring powerful change to the way hospitals function. Are there change agents in your workplace? Share what they do here and honor them by motivating others!
