Cephalosporin antibiotics are often used to treat common bacterial infections and commonly used for surgical prophylaxis.
To make the process of creating cephalosporin's more environmentally sustainable; the synthesis steps in the creation process have been reduced by 50% (from 8 to 4). The yield has been nearly tripled (from 12% to 34%) and there has been an 80% reduction of hazardous solvents. As a result, the creation process is safer, waste streams are significantly reduced, shorter cycle times are obtained, and drug substance quality is improved.
