Leading U.S. hospitals recognized for transforming health care's response to the climate crisis

RESTON, VA (DATE) – We are living through a historic convergence of global crises. Among them, the climate crisis stands as humanity's most urgent and widespread health threat – and also the greatest opportunity in a century to advance public health. Health care, with its healing mission and responsibility to protect community well-being, must lead the way toward a sustainable, low-carbon, and resilient future.

Practice Greenhealth is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Environmental Excellence Awards, the nation's highest honor for health care facilities demonstrating leadership in sustainability, environmental stewardship, and climate resilience. This year, 496 health care organizations are being recognized for embracing this transformational moment.

Among them, the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award honorees stand out for exemplary performance and innovation in sustainability that is transforming the future of health care. These recipients are proving that increased health care demand doesn't need to result in an increased burden on climate.

"Our Top 25 awardees reflect a powerful movement in health care,” said Shanda Demorest, Senior Director of Network Experience & Solutions at Practice Greenhealth. “By adopting clean energy, reducing waste, designing climate-resilient infrastructure, and engaging frontline communities, these facilities are proving that environmental responsibility and health care excellence go hand in hand.
